     "Unsuspecting Viewers" details the exploits of well-traveled news anchor
James Roberts. Fresh off an anchoring stint in St. Louis, Missouri, Roberts
arrives in Kansas City as a serial killer begins his deadly work.
      Police eventually arrest a suspect, but he escapes as the case gets 
closer to trial. Media jumps all over the story, blaring the case from the
roof-tops so to speak. Reporters really go into frenzy when police discover
the serial killer's two latest victims have ties to one of KC's television 
stations. Lead homicide detective Curtis Hull begins to wonder, are the 
staffers of Channel Eight covering the news? Or are they making it?
      Ironic twist: a sort of life imitates art. Killer's method of choice
in book is to dump the bodies in the Missouri River (as if to cleanse them
of their impurities). Kansas City police are currently investigating a series
of so-called "river bodies". Five women have washed up along the Missouri 
River in the past six months. (Yes, that's after the book went to press, but
still a twilight-zonish type of feel).
