DON WISMER Don Wismer's first science fiction novel was the hardcover Starluck, published by Doubleday, 1982. A few years later there was a paperback edition, and three additional novels came from Wismer's pen (computer, actually), all paperbacks from Baen Books: Warrior Planet, Planet of the Dead, and A Roil of Stars. All are out of print. Only the hardcover Starluck is available from: Don Wismer, P.O. Box 207, Kents Hill, ME 04349 for $5 plus $2 shipping/ handling. Starluck is a young adult novel and attracted much favorable comment, including a starred review in Booklist. The story: in the 300 suns civilization the evil Emperor tests his subjects around high school age to determine how lucky each may be. Persons with a high level of luck are seen as a threat and eliminated. Our hero tests off the scale, but before he can be killed he luckily escapes and blunders into the company of an interstellar circus. After much adventure he confronts the Emperor.
