This is a Northern Virginia Writers' First Friday Event sponsored by Northern Virginia Writers, a steering committe of The Writer's Center, in partnership with the Town of Leesburg. Admission is $3.00 for Writer's Center Members and residents of Leesburg, $3.00 for member guests (first guest is free), and $5.00 for non-members. Refreshments and an opportunity to network with other writers will follow the presentation.
WIW puts on the conference every year at the National Press Club, and includes panels of interest to both fiction and non-fiction writers. It's primarily aimed at freelancers.
Balticon, Baltimore's oldest Science Fiction Convention, is sponsored and run by the Baltimore Science Fiction Society, Inc. It is a regional convention with an attendance of approximately 1,500.
Capclave is run by the Washington Science Fiction Association, the people who brought you DISCLAVE in years gone past. Capclave is a small convention -- WSFA anticipates about 400 members -- with a friendly feeling and warm hospitality. The convention's emphasis on short stories attracts a literary audience with a large number of frequent readers.
