                Another Monday Morning in L.A.

10/19/92 - 3:58am, I was on my way to the Post Office (my work
& waking hours are completely reversed, lately). Driving east
along Sunset Blvd, I passed a stopped patrol car and two police
men staring up at a closed bar's ringing burglar alarm. A few
more blocks, and I was at Alvarado, waiting behind another left
-turning car. The dark morning seemed oddly surreal - even more
than usual. No sounds, no movement, no other cars...except this
one ahead of me. The signal light was green...he still wasn't
 turning.

I tapped my horn, once. (Honk twice, you risk return-fire.) No
reaction. I backed up, and moved around the car. And then saw
its occupants, just sitting inside...they looked asleep. In the
middle of the wide, business-district intersection.

I made a U-turn, parked, and ran over to the car - a Plymouth
Reliant, just chugging in place, its headlights staring, windows
closed. Inside - two men in their mid-20's, clean-cut, black,
passenger with glasses, tie & sweater; both slumped forward with
their eyes closed, drool dripping from their mouths.

Not a good scene...

I zoomed back to the police, U-turned and told them about some
thing they should check out, ASAP. They nodded, and moved to
 their car.

I drove back, waited by the street-side...no police. The car's
still puttering away. People in it, are still out of it. I
could imagine my friends telling me I'm a fool for caring about
this and it's a dangerous area, etc. I finally decided to just
drive on to the Post Office.

Mailed the letters, and drove back. About two minutes elapsed
time. The car was gone. Guess they woke up. Or the Sominex
wore off. Or the camera crew had enough footage for this latest
skit on "Dick Clark's Practical Jokes & Bloopers" special. And
 no police, nowhere.

And people ask me why my movies are so strange. I was born just
a mile away from here. And I want to move. To the other side
 of the world.
