Mark Stackpole: 1/20/97

Zahn's return to Analog is a light diversion. While there is nothing substantial to this breezy comic tale of the stock plot of Humanity's misinterpretations of an alien Ambassador's intentions, it does feature Zahn's ability to wring out every aspect and implication from a simple concept. "The Play's the Thing" uses a gimmick of sprinkling a couple of a rebuses into the text, so that the reader can play a quiz or two while reading the story.
