Here are some of the things I'm working on.

Contents may vary, settle, or be subject to change.

Tour of Florida

A personal and subjective tour of the Sunshine State.

After growing up all over the map, I've lived in Florida for 25 years now. I love this state, mostly for its natural beauty. This will be a tour of some of the places and people that make Florida such a special place to me. Not much here on Disney, I'm afraid, but a lot of critters, swamps, open water, neat people and cities, odd characters and other hidden treasures.

Arctic Summer

A shift in time and space to the summer of 1963 and a remote camp 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle. It's a coming-of-age story of sorts, full of adventure, whales and a lot of mosquitoes. It was a summer of hard work and physical challenges under some pretty harsh conditions. I would not trade the experience for anything.

I've always wanted to write a book about this time, but have never been able to fit it in. This will serve as a place to get some of my thoughts down.

Redesign of Site

So far I've done just about all the work on this site myself (Barbara helped with the embossed headers). But I'm basically a writer and tend to think of words first. The talented Scott Hall has offered to help me with a redesign, and if we can ever clear our schedules enough to make this happen, it will.

Works in Progress

This section may never happen, or it may just pop up one day. It would be an easy area to construct -- mostly just cut and paste -- but I have mixed feelings about it. Most of my short fiction doesn't stay "in progress" very long. Like most working writers, I ship it out the door as soon as it's finished.

Longer works are different, but the business of rough drafts and ongoing revisions are pretty complex. At one time Jack Dann and I talked about putting parts of GHOST DANCE online to show how we work together. Maybe it will happen.

Bookstore

I gave some thought to building a section where people could buy copies of my books and anthologies containing my stories. Then I thought about linking to books I feel are useful to other writers and books I've enjoyed. I also toyed with the idea of listing autographed copies of my out of print books. Add comments, scanned photos of covers and samples of the books and ... ... it all got far too complicated. I've put this idea on hold.

Odd Things I Find and What I think About Them

Back in the days when I was cruising GEnie every day I kept a kind of a journal and one of the things I did with it was point out the odd and unusual things that crossed my path. I enjoyed that part of the online life. Doing it on the web with links would be a lot of fun. This is one I'll probably get to someday.

Things I Haven't Thought Of

Something is bound to come up that grabs me and I'll pound out some html and stick it in here. With luck, it'll be interesting.
