BBR does not have a set publication schedule and is published sporadically. [sff.publishing.market-reports, 20 Feb 99] =Flesh and Blood= Matt Doeden, associate editor of =Flesh and Blood=, says, "Just a note on a slight name change for the dark fantasy/horror print magazine Flesh and Blood. We've added a subtitle: "Quiet Tales of Dark Fantasy and Horror." The name change should be in effect with issue 5. "We've done this because of a decision to place a heavier focus on supernatural elements, a thrust on the eerie, rather than the horrific or gruesome. We want to go in a Ray Bradbury-type direction. We realize the magazine's title may lead authors and potential readers to assume we focus on the latter, but we're hoping the addition of the subtitle will remedy that, at least to a degree. "We've also upped our word limit to 4,000 (firm). Feel free to email me or Jack (ahhh@webtv.net) with questions. Also let me note that all email submissions should go to Jack, not me. It's easier for us to keep records that way." [sff.publishing.market-reports, 17 Feb 99] =The Fractal= During a discussion of print magazine =The Fractal= on SFF.NET, one writer whose story had been accepted and published in mid 1998 says he still hasn't received payment for the story. He has received author's copies of the magazine it appeared it, but not the payment. He says it is a high-quality publication, and he's glad his story got published in it, but writers might want to be aware of their slowness. [sff.writing.response-times, 4 Feb 99] =The Goblin Market= Marcie Tentchoff, Poetry Editor - Eggplant Productions, says, "=The Goblin Market=, the first electronic chapbook published by Eggplant Productions (the people who bring you =Jackhammer= ezine) is now available for online ordering, either on CD-ROM, or by direct download. "=The Goblin Market= features traditional fantasy stories and poetry, set off by music and artwork. Also included is an interview with fantasy great Raymond Feist. "Stop by and check it out! The URL is: http://www.eggplant-productions.com/goblin/" [sff.publishing.announcements, 31 Jan 99] =Gothic.net= A writer received the following information in a rejection (of a swords and sorcery story) from Webzine =Gothic.net=: "At this time we're not taking submissions of a fantastic nature, however...as dark as the storyline might be." [sff.writing.response-times, 27 Jan 99] =Space and Time= A writer on SFF.NET got a rejection from =Space and Time= editor Michael Laimo that says they don't accept reprints. [sff.writing.response-times, 31 Jan 99] =The Age of Reason anthology= Editor Kurt Roth of the SFF.NET anthology, =The Age of Reason=, says, "We are now closed to unsolicited submissions. Only requested rewrites, solicited stories, and snailmail subs postmarked 1/30/99 or before will be considered from here on. All other submissions will be discarded unread. I mention this not only for sake of clarity (never hurts to repeat this sort of thing), but because it appears our GLs were corrupted in more than one posting -- i.e., the information about our reading window was either deleted or, in the case of =Scavenger's Newsletter=, altered to read "Open January 31." Scav made every effort to correct this error (thanks!), but it's likely a few people will have missed the correction and will still attempt to submit stories in February and beyond. My apologies for any inconvenience, but we can't change policy to accommodate third-party typos. "Some data points: Received more than 950 submissions in 31 days; enough to fill TAOR twice over, every day. The vast majority arrived by snailmail, despite an increase in the cost of postage and my expressed preference for e-subs, go figure. I did my best to respond thoughtfully to every submission -- and all responses were lovingly hand-typed, I swear --but I'm afraid a few people still got stuck with Brain Macros; inanities along the lines of "not quite right for TAOR." Note, this was =not= my subtle way of saying, "If you foul one more scrap of paper, I will come to your home and parboil any domestic animals found on the premises." Virtually every story that crossed my desk was worthy of more lucid commentary, and would have been afforded such if the time had been available. "So far, I have committed to five stories. Roughly two dozen more have been relegated to my Hold file (with the authors' kind permission) and another three dozen or so (dating back to 1/26) await a second read. The latter will be processed in the next day or two. If you submitted a story prior to 1/26 and have not received a reply, please feel free to query at your leisure. "Beyond that, I'm waiting on a few rewrites and solicited pieces, and hope to finalize the contents sometime within the next couple of weeks."
