(GLs in Vol. 6 No. 18)] MARKET GUIDELINES =Burning Sky= [Print magazine, biannual, subs only Aug-Sep yearly, comb. SF/H, 500-3500 wds. No E-mail subs or reprints. =Pays in copies=.] Greg F. Gifune, Editor =Burning Sky=, Adventures in Science Fiction Terror, is a new biannual, digest-sized fiction magazine from Thievin' Kitty Publications. It recently premiered, and is now open to fiction submissions from 500 to 3500 words [See note below: only open to submissions August and September--Julia]. =Burning Sky= is a very specific market, so please pay close attention to our guidelines. Stories can be set in different time periods or present day, but must be a blend of both Science Fiction and Horror. We look for adult, spine-tingling tales of terror and the unknown, and especially welcome original stories of ordinary people confined or isolated, and faced with extraordinary circumstances. Think films like =Alien=, =The Thing=, =Village of the Damned=, =The Puppet Masters=, =Invasion of the Body Snatchers=, =Event Horizon=, =Predator=, =Bladerunner=; the short stories or novels most were based on, or the highly entertaining Science Fiction stories seen on The Outer Limits or The Twilight Zone. Stories can be set on this world, other planets, or in space, but we DO NOT want Alternate History, Fantasy, Sword and Sorcery, or plodding, introspective tales. We look for originality, believable characters, action, heavy atmosphere, realistic dialogue, a strong plot, and startling endings. Violence, sex and profanity are acceptable but do NOT be gratuitous. AS WITH ALL OF OUR PUBLICATIONS, STORIES WHICH DEPICT ANIMALS IN VIOLENT OR SEXUAL SITUATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Send submissions (1 story at a time, please) in standard manuscript format. ALL submissions must include a SASE, a cover letter, an author bio and a list of previous publishing credits, if any. Be sure to send submissions to =Burning Sky= (as we also publish THE EDGE, Tales of Suspense), Greg F. Gifune, Editor, at the address listed above. Response time is 1-8 weeks. We do NOT accept electronic submissions or reprints, and WE ARE ONLY OPEN TO SUBMISSIONS DURING THE MONTHS OF AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER OF EACH YEAR. Both issues for the following year will be filled during that reading period. Payment is one copy on publication. Cover price: $3.00 U.S./$4.00 elsewhere. Checks/money orders payable to: Greg F. Gifune. [From website at http://members.xoom.com/write/sky.html] ==End of CALLIHOO newsletter for 27 October 1998==
