ho are the Alternate Historians? We are a group of seven writers who have been together for many years.  The group began at a St. Louis science fiction convention, NameThatCon, in 1988. At that convention, fourteen people participated in a writers workshop.  After the convention, a few of them continued to meet.  Over the next few years, membership changed fairly often, but by 1994, the group had formed a roster that has remained stable ever since.

ho makes up the group?

Thomas Drennan - author of a short story which was published in Writers of the Future Volume IX.  Tom also writes clever novel-length mysteries.  We hope to see his longer work published some day soon.

Laurell K. Hamilton - author of the Anita Blake and Meredith Gentry series, as well as her first novel, Nightseer, and several short stories.  Laurell's entry on Wikipedia. Who would have thought when this group got started that years later, one of us would be on the New York Times Bestseller list and have a fan club of her very own?  Amazing!

Martha Kneib (Marella Sands) - author of non-fiction books under her own name, and science fiction/fantasy under the name Marella Sands. Also wrote three Self Help Writing Guides, which can be found online.  One-half of the writing team Kenyon Morr, which published two King's Quest books in the 1990s.

Rett MacPherson - author of the Torie O'Shea mysteries.

Deborah Millitello - author of a multitude of published short stories and a novel coming out from Double Dragon Publishing.

Sharon Shinn - author of the Angel books (Archangel et al.) as well as stand-alone novels like Jenna Starborn and Wrapt in Crystal.  Has two series currently being published, one a YA series from Viking, and the other a fantasy series from Ace. Sharon won the Crawford Award for her first novel, The Shape-Changer's Wife.  Sharon's entry on Wikipedia.

Mark Sumner (M.C. Sumner) - author of the World Fantasy Award-nominated Devil's Tower, as well as over twenty young adult books.  His News from the Edge series was made over into a TV series on the Sci-Fi Channel, and titled The Chronicle.  One-half of the writing team Kenyon Morr, which published two King's Quest books in the 1990s.  Mark's entry in the IMDBRead Mark's blog on DailyKos!
