Shadow is the second of the books in the Chronicles of the Three Lands, and has been published by the Print-On-Demand publisher Xlibris, with the ISBN 0-7388-2465-8.
Please don't blame me for the cover! Yes, I know it makes the book look like a not-very-promising potboiler. I tried to get the cover changed, but Xlibris reserves the right to use a cover of whatever design it chooses (despite the fact that it promises that the cover will be "appropriate" -- I guess that "appropriate" is in the eye of the beholder), and did not even bother to respond to my requests for a change.
Shadow is available as a softcover only, and you should be able to order it online from Barnes and Noble or amazon.com as well as from your favorite bricks-and-mortar book shop or directly from the publisher.
The retail price is generally around $22; usually it is less expensive (by a few dollars) to order directly from the publisher. You might also want to order from the publisher instead of a bookstore because the royalty paid to the author is considerably higher for books ordered directly from the publisher.
The story
It has long been prophesied that one day a High King of War will come to Palindor. But when he does come, it is not as the savior the people expect, but at the head of an invading army.
Michael, son of Catherine, the High Queen of Palindor, arrives in Palindor, where he is met Qivir, the mortal form of one of the generals of Malthazzar, the Lord of Evil. Qivir spins him a tale of treachery and deception; acting under Qivir's direction, and with the aid of an evil necromancer, Michael ousts the King of Reglandor and is crowned King in his place.
Qivir persuades Michael to invade Palindor, since only by doing so can he free Palindor from the influence of its evil High Queen. Michael reaches Carn Toldwyn, the capital of Palindor, and in the Great Hall of the castle he comes face-to-face with the High Queen. Gleefully Qivir watches while the son engages the mother in a battle to the death....
