HLHV Medical Scholarship Fund

Pro-Choice Resources established the HLHV Medical Scholarship Fund in 1992 to provide tuition assistance for first through fourth year medical students who will perform abortions as part of their medical practice. The scholarship fund was established and named in honor of the pioneering efforts of doctors Jane Hodgson, Fred Lyon, Mildred Hanson, and Romil Valgemae, each of whom have provided women with full reproductive health care for over 20 years.

Dr Hodgson presented the 1995 scholarship award to Jessica Saberman, who was a medical student at Mayo Clinic. Dr Hodgson spoke for all of us when she applauded Ms Saberman on her decision to work for one academic year with the national organization, Medical Students for Choice.
