2 January 2009

Finished typing up CJ's second notebook, and off it went to Norilana. Will be turning in Treason's Shore, the last Inda book, very soon, I hope. Working at the maps right now, before I launch into Banner of the Damned.

I will be a guest of honor at this conference in Vail, Colorado next October. The main Guest is Tamora Pierce, a writer I admire tremendously. If you can be there, come talk about books, fantasy, women heroes and authors, and about writing!

Now out, my romantic fantasy, The Trouble with Kings , the first version of which was written just after Crown Duel--which gets reviewed here by a writing friend who saw the early versions. The Trouble with Kings came to me back in the days when there were no ordinary princesses in stories...I wondered what it would be like for an ordinary one to fall into highly romantic, dashing adventures, and that tale wrote itself.

Next short story will be "Miss Austen's Castle Tour" in Lace & Blade II, out in February 2009. Next book, in April, Once a Princess, first of two books called Sasharia En Garde!. This story is romantic fantasy, somewhat the same as Crown Duel in tone and how romance blends with adventure. Sasha is easily my most dashing heroine

The fourth and last Inda book, Treason's Shore, is now done.

It was just over ten years ago when I finally got the first image of this one: children in a courtyard, as a boy's voice pipes, "Let's go fight the girls!" It was longer ago than that when I was in map-making mode, and I first wrote, "Elgar Strait." Must have been around 1969, and all I remember thinking is, "People said he was a pirate but he wasn't, and his name wasn't Elgar, either."

A Posse of Princesses in paperback, with a map added

14 Feb 2008--My story Rule of Engagement is out in Lace and Blade

2 January 2008: CJ's First Notebook: Over the Sea is now out. This is my earliest set of stories, about CJ and the adventuring girls who don't have to grow up. They have fun! They learn magic! They fight villains! (They are highly trained in the art of the Duel to the Pie!)

16 December 2007--I have a story in Coyote Wild--"And Now Abideth These Three" is the closest I've ever come to a holiday story. It's reptrinted from Realms of Fantasy ten years ago.

I got interviewed--and by the excellent author Shannon Hale!
