KIHLSTROM

Award Winning Regency Author As Well As The Acknowledged Mistress of Book In A Week

I love Regency romances. That’s why I’m delighted my backlist titles are now starting to be available in ebook format. You can see what titles are currently available here.

I’m even more delighted to be able to tell you I have an entirely new Regency romance coming out in October 2012 called Dutiful Wife and it’s available for pre-order now! (Links are on the page noted above.)

The other part of my professional life is that of a life and writing coach for writers. Part of that includes teaching my online class BOOK IN A WEEK. (See below for details of the next scheduled class.) I’ve been called “the acknowledged Mistress of Book in a Week.” Book in a Week is a philosophy of writing and a process designed to let a person write faster, easier and have as much fun as possible doing so. It grew out of all the things that I have learned as a writer over the years. And make no mistake—I am a writer before all else! You will find information on this website about workshops and coaching but I am a writer. I love to create worlds with wonderful characters and imagine how people can find happiness and love and grow in ways that let them create the lives they want to have.

I write what I do because I believe that each of us also has the ability to create the lives we want to have—no matter what the circumstances of our past may have been. Whether in the Regency time period or the present or the future, my heroes and heroines will always find ways to rise above the challenges in their lives and treat others—or learn to treat others—with kindness and honor and respect.

But back to Regencies…. Most of my books have been set in the Regency time period. Why not? It was a time when so much was changing socially, politically, economically, and in personal relationships. And just like today people were trying to adapt to all those changes and decide what to keep and what to let go of in terms of traditions and values and beliefs. As I said above, I'm really excited to be able to tell you that my back list Regencies are beginning to be available in e-book format. Please check my publishing history page or my blog to see where you can order them!

I am just learning to use Twitter. If you are interested in following me you can do so at:

Meanwhile....welcome to my website. You will find information on my published books and my speaking engagements, links to websites useful to writers, tips for writers on Book in a Week and time management, tips on public speaking and some of my personal thoughts as well. -----April Kihlstrom

Upcoming Events:

I am now offering online writing workshops. Online classes will be conducted via email only, no real-time or live chats. To receive notice of these workshops please subscribe to my email loop here. This will be a notification only loop so you will only receive email when I want to let you know about an upcoming class. (Note: We’re all human, right? Thanks to not enough coffee one Sunday morning and too much haste, I inadvertently made the original loop a closed loop so I've created a second class loop. The same information will go to both and this is the one that still lets new people join...)

Upcoming Online Classes

Recently I led an online writing motivation class for the Beau Monde chapter of RWA. If you missed it or just want some inspiration to write, I'm offering it again, privately, starting Feb 3, 2013.

Cost: $12
Dates: 2/3/2013-2/10/2013
Lessons: via email at your convenience

Goal of the class? To help you discover reasons to WANT to write. I'm a big believer--and research shows--that the more fun we have doing any creative activity, the better our brains will work and the more productive we will be.

So come take the class and write more and have more fun while doing so!

To sign up, email me at aprilkihlstrom@yahoo.com.

Please feel free to forward this information to anyone you think might be interested in the class.

The unanimous response to my class last time was that people prefer having 2 weeks to write and therefore a 6 week class so that's what I'm offering from now on.

First, my goal with this class as with every time I offer it: To bring more joy into your life and into your writing process. I believe that when we do anything with joy, we do it better and faster and more creatively. This is why so many who have taken this class have gone on to sell their work and/or win awards. At least one author has had her book written with this process optioned for a movie. This is an intensive class but I hope it will also be one that helps you smile as you brainstorm and then write your book.

Book in a Week Online Writing Class

Cost: $85 ($45 if you have taken it before)
Dates: February 17, 2013 to March 29, 2013
Deadline to sign up: by February 15, 2013 (though I do sometimes take people at the last minute if there is still room in the class)

Lessons: Everything is handled via email so that you can do the work at your convenience.

Class size is limited!

Class Description:

This class will take you through every step of the writing process—from beginning to brainstorm all the way through sending material out to be published. And it will help you discover who YOU are as a writer. You can participate as much or as little as you like in email discussions.

Weeks 1-3:
This is when you do the prep work with lessons that are designed to get you thinking in new ways about your project. Among other things, I'll cover characters and book structure, imagery and use of names, POV and how to make sentence and paragraph structure work for you. If you choose, you can post answers and get help brainstorming ideas for your book but
NO ONE is required to do so!

Weeks 4 and 5: Intensive Writing Weeks 4 and 5 (March 9, 2013 through March 24, 2013)

This is your chance to write better and faster than you ever have before, to discover what YOUR natural first draft will look like and ways to fit writing into your life that you may never have thought of before.

Week 6:

Here's your chance to look at the experience of weeks 4 and 5 and use it to create a writing method that works for YOU and is tailored to your most natural writing style. We'll also look at how to revise your work in the fastest, most effective way possible and I'll be sharing some of my thoughts on query letters, synopses, etc.

Does it work? Well, a number of people who have taken this class are now published or under contract with material they worked on during my classes!
