Enemy Mine Longyear/Gerrold/Khmara Paperback/Charter/Berkleyf ISBN 0-441-20672-7 Dec. 1985 |
The final chapter in a really bad nightmare. The contract for the book
required that the book not contradict the movie script. I couldn't hack
it (or at least hack it up any more) so I got my agent to get someone
else for the job. David Gerrold took it on and I never read it so I
don't really know what kind of job he did. I'm grateful to him all the
same. |

Slag Like Me Barry B. Longyear Paperback/Pocket Books ISBN 0-671-79514-7 Jul. 1994 |
I had a proposal for a Star Trek novel and went to Pocket Books with
it. Boy did that guy ever talk fast. I wound up writing two Alien
Nation novels for hire and a bag of peanuts. As much as I disliked the
AN series (so many stupid things there's not enough room in the World
Wide Web to list them all), I am very proud of the two novels. |

The Change Longyear/Mitchell/Sickle Paperback/Charter/Berkley ISBN 0-671-73602-7 Mar. 1994 |
I took a screenwriter's screenplay, threw it away, and then did a story
"inspired" by the screenplay. This is essentially what they did to me
when Hollywood did Enemy Mine. In this case, however, it improved the
product, although I haven't heard from the screenwriters on this
subject. |
