GOOFS
If I don't point these out, someone else will ... Be warned, there are some spoilers.
  • In chapter 5 of His Majesty's Starship, set in April 2149, Joel Gilmore is aged 18 years and 3 months, indicating a January birthday. In chapter 21, set in May 2149, his birthday is "next month". A June birthday is also the one that made it through to The Xenocide Mission.
    • Explanation: the first date comes out of Gilmore's thought processes and he's an even worse father than he thinks.

  • In chapter 6, when Gilmore details the crew's duties, Hannah and Samad are on different watches. By chapter 8, they're on the same watch.
    • Explanation: love will find a way.

  • SPOILER ALERT: In chapter 16, the Pride Senior 300 years previously was Tail Star. This has two words and so must be a First Breed name. The First Breed hadn't been created then and the Pride Senior must have been a One Who Commands.

  • In chapter 19 of His Majesty's Starship, reference is made to the first torpedo fired in anger. Readers of chapter 1 will know this to be inaccurate. Well, Gilmore was being poetic ... or just referring to that fight.

  • The NVN's uniforms are either dark or pale green, depending on which passage you're reading. Two obvious answers present themselves:
    • dark green for dress uniform, pale for combat (or vice versa);
    • they left the dark uniforms in the wash too long.

  • SPOILER ALERT: In chapter 22 of His Majesty's Starship, the Dead World is described as having a different biosphere and atmosphere to the Roving. In The Xenocide Mission, this doesn't stop Joel from walking around on it freely and without the need for breathing apparatus.
    • Explanation: Arm Wild (a diplomat, not an astrophysicist) must have been exaggerating: just accept that it's a cold, unfriendly place.
