Painted Bookcase

"Library of Dreams"

This cabinet was made to hold stereo equipment. It still has a roll-out drawer for the turntable. I bought it at a rummage sale and refinished the exterior with one of the Formby's antiquing treatments. To do the tromp d'oeil, I first painted a watercolor sketch, and then transferred the drawing to the cabinet doors. I used mostly artists' oil paint, plus some acrylic gold. The skull is that of a Neanderthal. The books are solely those which do not exist, but ought to.
