Word Processing: Resume

Everyone will eventually write a resume, if you haven't already.  Write your resume as if it were to be sent to your future employers for the entire world to read.  Prepare your paper with the word processor.  Your resume must follow these guidelines:

1. Centered across the top should be your name and address.  (Your address can be fiction).

2. These 5 sections must be on your resume: Contact Info (your address can be fiction), employment Objective, Education, Skills, and Work Experience.

3. Use a variety of bolding, Margins, indentation, etc. to make it look professional and interesting, but not too overdone.

4.   When filling in your job experience, starting with the most recent employment and working backwards.  You should put a start/stop date for each job, but these can be in terms of months/years.

2001-Present           Lab Supervisor for Foster Farms Inc.

Duties included: ...etc...

1999-2001                 Math Tutor

                                    Part time work during college

Keep the resume down to a single page.  Employers skimming through a hundred resumes rarely want to see more.  Don’t make the print too small and don’t use an unreadable font.  Single-space, use the under-lining and bold print where it looks good, and be truthful.  If you want, you can give yourself the degree you plan to achieve at the end of your education.

Make sure you spell-check your work.  Print out the resume and turn it in.
