J. BRIAN CLARKE

Science Fiction Writer

I am mostly known as an ANALOG writer, with sixteen stories (five of them cover stories) which have appeared in that publication so far, including the popular 'Expediter' series. The first two sales were to the late and great editor of Analog, John W. Campbell. 'Dinoshift' in the Jan '96 issue, was nominated for the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of Ameriica (SFWA) Nebula award, and has appeared in audio-book form. My novelette 'Wet', which appeared in the March 2001 issue, was followed a few months later by its sequel 'In Spare'. 'The Man Who Walked on the Ceiling' is my cockeyed tribute to a not-so-typical SF fan. Of my two novels, 'The Expediter' was published by DAW in 1990, and 'Alphanauts' by EDGE in 2006. The latter is an expansion of two novelettes previous published in Analog, and is available from Amazon.com. 'Hell Ain't What it Used to Be', a comedic fantasy about the afterlife, is currently in preparation. My stories have also appeared in GALAXY, EXPANSE and ON-SPEC. 'Earthgate' was the lead in Donald A. Wollheim's 1986 ANNUAL WORLD'S BEST SF. 'Testament of Geoffrey' appeared in the Russian publication INVENTOR AND INOVATOR. 'Return of The Alphanauts' was purchased by Editorial Sirio in Malaga, Spain.

Current memberships include the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America, and SF Canada. I am a Fellow of the British Interplanetary Society, and a member and a past president of the Calgary center of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.

I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I hold honorary lifetime membership of the Calgary Con-Version SF and Fantasy convention, in which I have served as panelist and a judge of the short story contest. I was Alberta Guest Author at ConVersion VIII in July 1991, and a co-Canadian Guest of Honor at Con-Version XV in July 1998, along with Dave Duncan.

'Hell Ain't What it Used to Be' is a short story version of the novel in progress. It is somewhat of a departure for me because it is a fantasy. 'Alphanauts' is the opening chapter of my novel 'Alphanauts'. 'Various' can be anything, and will frequently change. I invite you to dip into this one. It may surprise you.
