The Staten Island Ferry crashes into its dock, killing 11 and injuring many more.

Monologist, actor, and part-time Soho fixture Spalding Gray disappears. Friends and family fear he has thrown himself off the Staten Island Ferry -- an idea the depressed Gray has mentioned before. His body is found in the East River on March 9, and identified by dental records.
