What appears here is various sorts of nonfiction. It's an eclectic collection, some of it mine, some of it not. All of it is here because it represents my views on the world. The Biography page tells you the quantitative details of my life, and the Gallery shows you the pictures; this is the rest of it. If this seems a bit sparse right now, don't worry -- this isn't all there is to what I think about, and I've got plenty more coming. The Making of a Goth is a sort of autobiographical philosophy. The question of what a goth is has been hashed out to the point where there's probably no more point in talking about it except to help out the baby bats. (And if you want to see some of the discussion, there are suggestions on my Links page.) But looking at how we get there, I think, may still be worth doing. Do Little Kids Belong on the Net? is a wonderful examination of the subject of kids and computers -- surely one of the most hysteria-filled debates of our time -- which originally appeared in TidBITS. The author of this piece has instantly become my hero. Thoughts on the Jihad started as a post on alt.gothic, in response to one of the endless Mac vs. PC threads. These debates are worthwhile, but they almost always turn into arguments of near-religious intensity. I've presented a few of the silliest arguments on both sides, and attempted to debunk them. Although I wrote this some years ago, the arguments -- and the truths -- are still almost exactly the same. The Constitution of the United States is here because ... well, I want it to be. The price of liberty is eternal vigilance, and all that. Just by being here on the Web reading this, you're scaring the shit (Oh-oh! Nasty word!) out of the Christian Coalition, large elements of both major political parties, several major corporations, and all their buddies. Feel free to keep this text handy to show the Secret Service. |
