New and Notable EbooksThe following books are available only as ebooks at the present time. Most of them will be issued in print at a future date and announced in Bainstorming or in the latest news section. Rogue Program
Rogue Program is an outgrowth of my popular novel, Savage Survival, which is combined with the sequel to make one giant book, essentially two books for the price of one!Almost from the time Savage Survival was published, fans and readers wrote asking, “What happened next?” This novel not only answers the question but includes a greatly expanded and revised version of the original novel which then segues directly into the sequel of that book. The two together make up Rogue Program. This is the longest work I’ve attempted and I’ve worked hard to make it an interesting and highly satisfying read. Lyda Brightner is a female protagonist anyone can identify with as she grows up with millions of other human captives of an unknown Alien species. Conditions are so harsh and change so often that death is a constant companion, winnowing the Survivors inexorably down to only a few thousand out of fifteen million. And then comes the hard part, trying to divine the motives of the Aliens who have never been seen. Only their mechanical avatars have been intermittently present during five long years of terrible struggles to live, with each change bringing ever-harsher conditions. What do the Aliens want? Why did they push millions of captive humans into environments where Survive or Die was the only option? What do they intend to do next? Read about Lyda Brightner and how she manages to stay alive by her quick wits, her innate bravery, her compassion for those weaker than herself and a determination never to give in to the tortures of captivity that leave so many older and physically stronger than her by the wayside. Rogue Program is a coming of age novel like no other and Lyda is a character you’ll remember for a long, long time. Follow her life from a privileged tween into an unimagined hell where she must constantly fight for her life. The biggest puzzle of the galaxy waits to be solved by the few Survivors of alien captivity. Failure to find the answer may mean oblivion not only for Lyda, her lover, and her fellow survivors but for the whole human race! Available as ebook edition at Amazon.com now! It's Never Too LateI grew up in an extremely poor family that was dysfunctional in many ways. We lived in the old segregated south, an era many of my readers have no knowledge of. This and a hardscrabble existence as well as an addictive personality gene(s) that apparently runs in our family shaped my life and played a part in me finally realizing a life-long dream and becoming a writer when I was about fifty years old. This autobiography, now in print and ebook both was begun in response to fans wanting to know more about me, and eventually one of my publishers thought it might make an interesting book. Many members from Betty’s side of the family were amazed at all the things they hadn’t known about me. You can judge for yourself now whether my publisher had the right idea of me doing an autobiography. I hope you are both entertained and possibly that some of you will learn a number of life’s lessons that I discovered the hard way!
Apertures - Book Three: A World Lost, A World Gained
The final book of the Apertures trilogy! The dream of a different alternity where Americans can begin anew has been a goal of Jan and Jani Jenkins almost since the first of the Apertures Era. Now they are working against time and selfish politicians to see it happen before the whole world goes up in flames. They are urgently ferrying colonists and equipment to a new earth that only they can reach, but often it seems as if the fates are conspiring against them and all they hold dear. But when the going gets tough, real Americans will always buckle down and try even harder. Yet this time, the twins may lose all they have worked for. War, unethical politicians, a mass movement aimed at controlling all aperture formation and the terrible loss of loved ones will test them in ways they never dreamed possible. If they can persevere, though, the reward may be worth it. Barely. Read all three books of this unusual saga of alternate earths, written in Darrell Bain's own inimitable style that his fans have come to love. Available now at bookstores and online from Fictionwise.com; Kindle; Barnes & Noble. Apertures - Book Two: Allies and Enemies
Book Two: Allies and EnemiesBetrayed by a new aperture former he is mentoring, unconscious from a head wound, Jan and his team are stranded in a hostile alternity, with enemy forces surrounding them and closing in for the kill? The exciting sequel to Apertures and the second book set in the Apertures universe.
Available now at bookstores and online from Fictionwise.com; Kindle; Barnes & Noble. Apertures
Twins Jan and Jani discover the existence of alternate Earths in a most unusual way. The first exploring party from another alternity immediately recognize that the twins have a powerful but unrealized talent for creating apertures into alternate worlds, but the twins suddenly realize they can spot an aperture and the person who formed it at a considerable distance, a talent they didn‘t know they had. The explorers from the Pankan Empire on another Earth have never seen the like of the twins. They are determined to not only subdue our Earth but to capture or kill the twins before they can develop their great ability to a point where they can help America and her allies resist the invasion. Within days, following one narrow escape after another, the Twins keep learning more and more about their abilities. They and their parents are helped by an old army buddy of Jan and Jani’s father, Herb Friedman. To complicate matters, Friedman has a beautiful young daughter Jan is interested in. The Pankans recognize this and attempt to capture her in order to force the twins to work for them. Colleen Friedman is having none of it, though. She’s been trained by her father in Karate and firearms, just as the twins have by their father. During the attempted kidnapping Jan and Colleen escape to a different alternity and there find some allies, the Europans, who will help Earth resist the Pankans because they are at war with them, too. Friedman calls on a Delta Force General for help in finding out how and why the Twins have such awesome talents for creating apertures to other worlds so that others of their kind can perhaps be found to help stave off a Pankan invasion of Earth. Time is not on their side, though, for the Pankans have a large number of aperture formers, called Apes by all alternities, while Earth has only three: Jan, Jani, and surprisingly, Friedman’s daughter, Colleen. It is a situation where ultimate defeat seems inevitable but the Twins are just getting started. The Panks are becoming sorry they ever discovered our Earth until they find that the terrorism so rampant in our alternity suits their purposes perfectly, especially when they can use those terrorists who don’t mind committing suicide. The Panks take terrorists back to their world then help them pop into our alternity armed with explosives all the way up to nuclear weapons. And besides the Pankans, General Bullock and the newly created Alternate Special Forces have to contend with a pacifist element in congress who block a declaration of war against Panka even after they assassinate our president. Only the Twins and Colleen may be able to stave off disaster until more American Apes can be discovered and trained, a far from easy task! This first book is a prospective trilogy or series and includes the first two chapters of the next book, Apertures: Allies and Enemies. Available now at bookstores and online from Fictionwise.com; Kindle; Barnes & Noble.
Oops!
Oops! is the third collection of stories by Darrell Bain. When Cupid and a Gremlin bump heads, the sparks fly in a rare fantasy story by the author. Others stories in the collection include A Simple Idea, an almost ludicrously simple method of eliminating corruption and idiocy from the political process, one that has been around for centuries but gone unrecognized. Cure for an Ailing Alien finds a nurse who must come up with a cure for an alien, one whose bodily processes are completely unknown. You'll be amazed at her cure! Retribution is the story of unexpected consequences when alien meets human. Robyn's Rock is partially based on a happening in the author's life during a walk with his granddaughter. Available now at bookstores and online from Kindle; Barnes & Noble.

Keane and the crew of Doc Travis are now involved in mankind's first interstellar war, where the very existence of humanity may be at stake. SF / Thriller The Disappearance Enigma, written with Mary Ann Steele is just out. It should show up in the ebook stores during November and shortly afterward in print. When a startling number of Americans prominent in the fields of science, math or technology mysteriously vanish, two NSA field agents, Ruthanne Carter and Larry Tracker, investigate the disappearances. Unknown to them, Caden Jordan, a highly competent detective, generates strong doubts that certain missing persons vanished of their own accord. The two agents and the detective compile an array of intriguing information that leads them, in company with other specialists within the NSA, to conclude that an alien “Entity,” for some enigmatic reason of his own, is surreptitiously abducting persons with certain abilities and transporting them to an alternate Earth in a parallel universe. When Ruthanne Carter vanishes, Larry realizes that she has been abducted by the Entity. Desperate, owing to his love for Ruthanne, he voluntarily puts himself in a position that increases his chance of being abducted himself. He becomes the next person to vanish. Available now at all bookstores and online from Fictionwise.com; Amazon.com; Barnes & Noble Darrell Bain's World of Books (Darrell Bain’s Autobiography)
It is Darrell's sincere hope that this autobiography, expanded from memoirs posted on his web site, will be an inspiration not only for writers but for anyone who has ever had to struggle in their life and for those who think things will never get better. They can, despite all the odds against them, if they will only keep trying. That's the key, he thinks. That and the right partner in life, like Betty is for him. Available now from Fictionwise.com; eReader.com; Barnes & Noble or Sony eBookstore.
The Best of Bainstorming, Volume I
Darrell Bain's monthly newsletter has proven extremely popular. The newsletter covers an array of subjects, most of them having little to do with writing. As Darrell says, I make notes during the month on anything that strikes my fancy and many of the subjects wind up in my newsletter. The newsletter led to readers asking about his life and this in turn led to a series of installments on his website about his life, from childhood on. Interest in Bain's memoirs was so great that his publisher offered him a contract for an expanded version, published in book form -- Darrell Bain's World of Books. Available now from Fictionwise.com; eReader.com or Sony eBookstore.
Space Trails
Darrell Bain's latest novel encompasses the spirit of the old American pioneers who risked all for a chance of a better life in a new environment. With conditions in America deteriorating, the Bentley family decides to take advantage of the recently discovered method for reaching the stars. They sign a contract with a corporation in return for partial financing of their venture to a new world. But as they travel on the space trails, they gradually discover that all is not right about the expedition they're on. When the discrepancies finally come to a head, they find the corporation has deceived all the immigrants. Regardless, there is no turning back, for the leaders of the expedition have outsmarted themselves. Out of food, lost in the labyrinth of the space trails, beset by denizens of the 'ways, with only a slim chance of survival, the Bentley family and their fellow immigrants press on, driven by the same indomitable spirit their forebears showed while conquering a new continent. Available now from Fictionwise.com; eReader.com; Diesel or Kindle.
Laughing All the Way (Santa Claus Lane series)
At last! The hilarious sequel to the five star rated Life on Santa Claus Lane is back! The bumbling adventures of a Christmas tree farmer and his saintly wife who (mostly) overlooks his aversion to work, his inability to handle anything mechanical without a life and death struggle, his aversion to work, his misguided attempts at cooking, his aversion to work, and the foibles of life on a farm his wife has to work to support while he is trying to become a writer. Don't miss it! Available now from Fictionwise.com; eReader.com; Kindle or Sony eBookstore.

Then when they find that the nuggets have an almost fatal attraction, they know they need help--and soon! Available now from Fictionwise.com or Sony eBookstore.
Toppers
Humor from Twilight Times Books. Tall tales or not (and they claim they're not), you will find yourself going along for the ride as Darrell Bain narrates the beginning of an electronic friendship between himself and Will Stafford. The two Vietnam veterans hit it off immediately when they run across each other on the web. Darrell is promoting his first novel, "Medics Wild" and lists it under Military humor. Will finds it there and asks what it is about. Available now from Fictionwise.com; eReader.coml or Sony eBookstore.
Three for the Money (Williard Brothers/Medics Wild series)
Adventure. Since their introduction in Medics Wild!, the zany Williard brothers' adventures have become increasingly science fictionish in nature, involving a real dinosaur in the Congo one time and factual evidence of Bigfoot (or more likely an alien) the next, but this escapade tops even those past exploits for strangeness. Three For The Money takes place after the turn of the century when the Williard brothers of Vietnam war fame are beginning to show their age, but aren't ready to slow down yet. They are headed into their wildest adventure yet, involving a treasure worth far more than their inherited billions even if they can collect the money, which becomes increasingly doubtful, because others want it, too. Their attempt to find the money and the baffling object that may be the real prize will set the stage for their antics to last for many, many years to come. Of course first they have to defeat the mysterious Mister H and his beautiful assistant, the CIA, the FBI, and the Mexican army, then find the money, collect the unknown prize and escape with their lives. That's a tall order for anyone--except the Williard brothers, the most amazing trio to appear in fiction since The Three Musketeers! Available now from Fictionwise.com; eReader.com; Kindle or Sony eBookstore. Space for Sale
Adventure.
The zany, politically incorrect Williard brothers are back, and this time they're shooting for Mars, trying to spend the billions of dollars inherited from the Mafia Godfather. But there's a financially and politically powerful organization that's been seriously hampering manned space flight for more than two generations, backed by shadowy beings who may not have originated on Earth at all. So far they've kept manned space flight from progressing very fast or far, but they've never confronted the Williard brothers either. Along with their girlfriends, the Williards intend to go to Mars or die trying--a distinct possibility! Available from Fictionwise; eReader.com; Kindle; Diesel or Sony eBookstore.
The Willard Brothers Collection (The first four books in the Williard Brothers/medics Wild series)
Adventure. The Williard Brothers Collection, Double Dragon Publishing, ebook, 2006, adventure. The four books of the Williard Brothers series, the zany trio who live for adventure and are the most politically incorrect scoundrels you'll ever meet, have been collected into one volume. It's been released by both Fictionwise.com, eReader.com, Kindle or the Sony eBookstore under the title The Williard Brothers Collection. The books were originally begun as a fictional account of Darrell and his brothers' adventures in Vietnam during the war and continued as a fiction series afterward. Available now from Fictionwise.com; eReader.com; Kindle; Diesel or Sony eBookstore.

Tonto: The Autobiography of an Odd, Addled, Autistic Dauchshund as Told to His Master
SF/Humor. This isn't really a science fiction story, but what other category do you put the story of a talking dog in? Especially when it's the story of the dog who was the avatar for the science fiction novel Bark! And finally, a talking dog makes it science fiction in my book, even if he did do it only that one magical night. When you read about what Tonto has to say for himself, you may have trouble believing a dog would think that way, but it's all true, I swear. I listened to his tale as he lay in front of the fireplace with me on a cold winter day. I don't know what happened that made it possible that one time for me to understand dog language, but I took advantage when it occurred and wrote it all down. I sat still and let Tonto talk. That's when I discovered I didn't know my dog near as well as I thought I did but after all, I was the one who asked him to tell about his life in his own words and in his own way so you would know what a really--um--exceptional dog he is. You see, Tonto is sort of addled and--but this is his story. Let him do the talking. You just kick back and read about his life and enjoy yourself. That's what I did, even though I knew a lot of it already. That one cold evening by the fire when Tonto suddenly began talking gave me an entirely different perspective on a dog's life. Maybe it took a full time author plus a special dog and a special evening to make the magic of understanding dog language work. It's never happened again, which is perhaps just as well. Tonto is pretty much full of himself already, to hear him tell it. If it got to where he could talk and make himself understood any time he wanted, no telling what kind of additional trouble he might get into--and he gets in enough as is. Just read what he had to say that one time and you'll understand. Available now from Fictionwise.com or eReader.com.
