Review Resources
Locus Magazine lists almost everything published in
field of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Some titles are reviewed by
several different reviewers giving many different perspectives.
Science Fiction Chronicle
New York Review of Science Fiction
Booklist does an excellent job of reviewing
mostly hardcover releases. Library Journal, Publisher¹s Weekly, and Kirkus all review some SF.
VOYA: Voice of Youth Advocates a journal reviewing books for teens does
a commendable job of reviewing paperback original SF because many teen readers
read SF published for adults as well as SF published for young adults.
Compton Crook Award. Awarded by the Baltimore Science Fiction
Society for the best first novel of science fiction (including fantasy).
Hugo Awards are nominated and voted on by the membership
of the World Science Fiction Convention. One of the most prestigious awards it
is a reflection of fan opinion
James Tiptree, Jr. Award. Named for Alice Sheldon who wrote
under the male pseudonym, this award is presented for science fiction and fantasy
that looks at gender in a different way. The James Tiptree, Jr. Award is ³given
to the work of science fiction or fantasy published in one year which best
explores or expands gender roles. ²
Nebula Awards are awarded by the Science Fiction and
Fantasy Writers of America. Membership in SFWA is only open to published
authors in the field making this prestigious award and award of peers that
reflects high literary merit.
Philip K. Dick Award. Awarded to a science fiction or
fantasy book published in paperback. It is administered by the Philadelphia SF
society.
Prix Aurora Award for best in Canadian Science Fiction
and Fantasy.
Sapphire Award for Best SF Romance of the Year

Sidewise Awards ³The Sidewise Awards for Alternate
History were conceived in late 1995 to honor the best "genre"
publications of the year. The award takes its name from Murray Leinster's 1934
short story "Sidewise In Time", in which a strange storm causes
portions of Earth to swap places with their analogs from other timelines. The
first Sidewise Awards were announced in summer 1996. ²--Sidewise award website.
