Yesterday I rode the bike to the gym. This is the bike that Clark and Margaret brought down for me, and it's definitely a massive improvement over that ancient piece of crap I had been using. This thing is perfect for going over the ultra-lousy sidewalks on the way to the gym. The weather was perfect for it too--highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s. This is what winter in the south is supposed to be like. Enough of that 20 degree crap.

I'm still enjoying working out, and certainly enjoying seeing visible progress. I've lost about ten pounds and six inches so far.

I've been in a funk-ish mood the past couple of days, not helped by the fact that I have a tooth that was beginning to twinge on me, and I was having visions of enduring another abscess, and having to face another root canal. So I went in to see my dentist this morning (at the ungodly hour of 8am) to catch it early, if it was indeed getting infected, but to my relief he said he could see nothing on the x-ray, and told me it was probably bite-related. Not really a surprise since I grind my teeth terribly (I have to wear a special guard at night, otherwise I destroy my teeth and give myself splitting headaches.)

So, avoiding a root canal improved my mood. And then, after I got out of the dentist's office, I went down to Walmart and happily shopped for fishing equipment. There was a really purty rod that I was drooling over, with a lovely reel with smooth action... but I couldn't really justify spending $60 on it when I didn't know how often I'd be able to go fishing, so I relented and settled for a $30 one. I'm really picky about how the drag works on my reels, and I was pleased to find one I could live with in a $30 model. I bought some other miscellaneous supplies, but I'll probably need to make one more shopping trip before I have sufficient tackle to actually go and waste copious amounts of time throwing a piece of nylon into the water.

Of course I'm also wondering if the places I used to fish even exist anymore. That was a pretty long time ago, and this area has developed pretty substantially. I'll probably need to scout all new places. I know, it sounds extraordinarily silly for me to be getting so excited about fishing. I can't explain it, but it certainly has a lot of appeal for me right now.

I also went to the coffeeshop with my laptop yesterday and got another 600 words done on the story that I promised Daniel I'd have done by the 20th. (Today is the 14th? Oh dear...) Sure... I'll have it done. No problem. Oh, it has to be coherent? Problem.
