Zeus is finally feeling better and is almost back to his usual self. He'd vomited up all of his dinner Tuesday night, so Wednesday morning I took him back to the vet. He still wasn't running a fever, but they couldn't find a reason for the barfing, so they decided to keep him for the day, give him some subcutaneous fluids, and see if he continued to barf. But his stomach behaved, so I was able to pick him up that afternoon with instructions to go ahead and feed him that night, and if he vomited to bring him back in so they could do a barium test. So, after feeding him and before leaving for work I had a long talk with Zeus and explained to him that if he continued to spew the contents of his stomach all over my house that I was going to have to take him back to the Icky Place and they were going to make him drink some nasty shit. The dog is obviously highly intelligent, for when I came home he was looking much perkier and the contents of his stomach were not all over the house. Good Dog. He continued to be very well-behaved at the vet, which was a bit of a surprise to the people there. Apparantly they have to muzzle most dogs like him because they get excitable and aggressive. (Of course most of the other Shepherds they see are the Slidell PD K9s, who are routinely encouraged to be aggressive.) The vet also gave me a compliment that made my day. I'd told her that I'd found Zeus at the shelter, and that this was the first dog I'd ever owned. She told me that for never owning a dog before I handled him really well. I guess all those dog-training books I've been checking out of the library did some good.;-) ![]() I got my Mississippi state taxes sent off today. Took me about five minutes to do them, and I'm getting a nice little chunk of change back from them. I sent my federal taxes off ages ago (or so it seems) but I still haven't gotten my refund back yet. I guess I missed the first window of refund mailings, and will have to wait for the next round. Was nice to see that I'm getting money back from MS though. Makes up for the unexpected expenses of having a dog with a touchy stomach. I'm envious of the Dog Boys; they get all their veterinary care for free. |
