Well, yesterday started out all right. I picked up my paycheck (which they actually got right this time,) I went into Slidell, stopped at the coffeeshop and got some writing done, went over to my parents' house and played with my cats for a while, then when my mother got home I went to lunch with her. Later in the evening I finished up my taxes (blech!!) and ate dinner with my parents and then drove on home. So far so good.

Then I got home and it went downhill. I went to check my email and my hard drive made a pretty horrible sound--the kind of sound that makes a person go, "Oh shit." Yep, it crashed. Big time. Total loss. All gone. Hard drive go bye-bye. So I called Gateway and told them my tale of woe, and they promisd to send me a new one, and even send someone over to install it. Of course it wouldn't get here for 3-5 working days. AIIEEEEEEE!!!!

So, okay, I couldn't check my email or update my website last night, or check my newsgroups... Okay, so the shakes weren't too bad. But I do have this nifty new laptop, right? Of course, I hadn't ordered a modem for it when I bought it, since I figured I'd have plenty of time to get one later. Ah well, so I went to Office Depot this morning and bought a modem for my laptop. Well, I got home with the new modem, installed the software, dialed up, and it worked for two minutes and then died. I fiddled with it for a while (note: fiddling includes screaming and yelling and generally cursing the gods and insisting that I'm not so bad a person as to deserve this sort of treatment), and then I gave up and took it back to Office Depot and said, "That was nice, now give me one that works."

Well, obviously I finally got onethat worked. Then I spent about 2 hours downloading all of the software I use on a daily basis. Sheesh.

So, I'm still not sure just how much I've lost. I do have a fairly recent backup, but it's from before I moved, and I know I've done work since then. I was still in "get organized" mode before going through the rigamarole of getting the tape drive hooked up to do another backup. *sigh*

What a total pain.
