Dorky Aphorism of the Week:

Practice begets proficiency

Rain, rain, rain. I'm kinda glad I don't have this holiday weekend off, since it's been pretty soggy so far. Business has been somewhat light at the casino too, though I'm not sure if that's due so much to the rain or the fact that we're not giving a Harley Davidson away this year.

But even with it being all thundery and rainy and generally yucky, I still went shooting this morning after work. I checked the radar online and saw that there were some clear spots, so I threw my stuff together and drove on out to the range. I felt a little less silly when I got there and saw that other people were shooting, even though it was still raining. The actual shooting areas are covered; it's just that you have to walk out in the rain to set up your targets. I stepped in some deepish puddles and soaked my boots thoroughly, but it was worth it since I was the only one on the pistol range for nearly an hour, and I was able to do pretty much whatever I wanted, at my own pace.

I'm definitely seeing improvement in my shooting, but it was clear today that I need to adjust my sights to the right a tad. I also need to do some dry firing, because I've developed a bad habit of jerking the trigger, which is pulling a lot of my shots down. I'm not really worried about qualifying; I think I'll manage that fairly easily, but I do want to make a strong showing.

Myke: I'm really just not the casual fling, sleep with a jillion different people, type of person. Oh, don't get me wrong. I've had my share of casual flings. But not right now, at this stage in my life. I think I'm just way too picky, but I'm not sure I should lower my standards. After all, I think I'm worth more than the average joe. Cocky and egotistical? Hell, yeah. And I just got UNmarried. I sure as hell don't want to do it again! Bleh.

But on the other hand, I'm doing my best to enjoy my life, and if someone flingable happened along, well, who knows what the future holds?

Toby: Take out a loan if you need to. I did. I may still be paying it off three years from now, but it was well worth it.
