I woke up at 3am. AIIEE! Amazingly I actually woke up about three minutes before the alarm went off. Showered, attempted to wake up, finished packing and was out the door by 4:30. My father was kind enough to take me to the airport, and then was kind enough to help me get all of my luggage in and checked in. We got to the terminal and got coffee in yet another attempt to wake up. Actually it was tar that they had stripped from the tarmac and boiled down, and luckily they called for boarding before I was required to drink the foul stuff. The granola bars that my mother stuffed into my purse saved my life. I really enjoy flying, though I'm discovering that when the airplane is still climbing my computer has a distressing tendecy to want to slide off of the little seat tray and into my lap. * * * * * Memphis was a fairly quick stop. This flight is a lot more crowded than the first leg was (New Orleans to Memphis.) While I was waiting for boarding a little old lady sat down next to me, clutching fantasy paperback by Ann Marston. After we got on the plane a man and his son sat in the seats beside mine, and the son proceeded to read aloud from the emergency procedure manual, with the father helping him with the hard words. They're returning from DisneyWorld, as I discovered. It's strange how my outlook has changed in such a short time. One of the first things I checked out on the dad (nice, pleasant, clean-cut man) was whether he was wearing a wedding band. * * * * * Okay, I'm sick of flying now. 8 hours in the air is way too much. The last leg of my trip was on a very big plane, eight seats across, and every seat filled. I got lucky on seatmates again though; I had a nice guy who was in the marines and was returning to Honolulu. (That's where the flight went on after Seattle.) I was pretty damn hungry for that last part too, and thought that the lunch cart would never get to me. But amazingly, once it did get to me, I found that the airline lunch was actually Not Bad. * * * * * And I finally made it to Seattle! My god, it's beautiful here! The weather is incredibly gorgeous today, and after my brother and his mother picked me up we took a ferry ride across the sound. Really incredible, though I have been told that the great weather is not a constant and I should not get used to it. I also got the tour of Sally's house (Sally is my Honorary Step-Mother, Mike's mother.) It's a very beautiful house with a terrific view. And so quiet! It's exactly the sort of place that I'd like to have someday to do writing at. * * * * * All right, I've been awake since an ungodly hour this morning, so I'm going to crash. I'll try and post more tomorrow. |
