Alan told me that the weather in Seattle is a lot better than anyone admits. They just tell nasty lies on themselves to keep the Californians away. Actually, it did dawn pretty cloudy today. But Mike and I geared up, put on leather, and got on the bike. We got about half a mile before it started to drizzle, so we pulled into a diner to have breakfast and see if it would stop. Well, it was still drizzling slightly when we finished, so we went back, got the car, and decided to do the shopping I needed to do. Luckily the weather did improve by the time I finished at Office Depot (made it out for under $100! Woo!), so we went back and I got back into my Biker Chic gear. Motorcycling is definitely the way to see the country. We went down to some state park--don't really remember which one, but we walked along the beach somewhere some after we got there. The thing that strikes me as being so odd is how different the trees are. It's all Christmas trees here. Spruce, Fir, and the occasional Cedar (yes, I know, Cedars aren't christmas trees), while down south all we have are those damn ubiquitous slash pines and loblollies. We were going to ride on up to Port Angeles, but the sky looked grey again so we switched back to the car again. Well, on our way up to Port Angeles we stopped to see this really incredible house/estate that has all sorts of carved trolls all over it and around it. Trollhaven, it's called, and apparantly the guy who built it got insanely rich off of some manufacturing deal. Hey, if you're going to be insanely rich, you may as well do something cool with the money. So on to Port Angeles. Lumber, fishing, more lumber, more fishing. It was actually really cool to see for me, since I've never been around any sort of area like this. We went all the way up to the point, where across the sound you can see Canada. Okay, so it was sort of hazy and we could barely see Canada, but we did take some pictures. Then finally we went on to meet Sally and Paul for dinner at a really cool little restaurant. It was quite noisy since there was a party of 20 that had just flown in by seaplane, but the food was still excellent. Then after dinner we went out to the dock and watched the seaplanes take off. All in all a very nice, relaxing, interesting day. I think tomorrow we're going to try and make it into the city. * * * * * And thanks to the Gestalt Mind of the Clarion mailing list, we've all found out what our room assignments/phone numbers are going to be already! |
