Saturday night I was still working on my story, getting stucker and stucker (and yes, I say that is a word), writing a sentence and deleting it. After the sixth time I did that (around 1:30am) I gave up and went to bed. Sunday morning I got up, pulled up the document, stared at it for a few minutes, then realized it wasn't going to happen. So, I filed it away, and started something else. And amazingly, I managed to spew out a little 2000 word story in one day. Supposedly it's funny. Supposedly. That remains to be seen. My sense of humor is most likely quite skewed at this point. * * * * * Daniel drove Karen and me to a real grocery store yesterday. Or rather, a grocery store that isn't outrageously expensive. The QFC at the bottom of the hill is a perfectly good store, and they have absolutely everything, but I find their prices to be pretty steep. I was getting annoyed at having to spend $0.95 for the little cans of the milk I use in my coffee. (Yes, I'm very picky about my coffee.) And yes, Alan, I have now tried espresso and other Seattle blends. I now know how to order: double tall nonfat mocha. * * * * * We met Connie WIllis last night. She's very funny and very bright, and this is going to be a terrific week. She's focusing on plot, and she's already given us a great deal to think about with regards to starting a story. It should be a very cool week. I plan on going back to the story I abandoned and seeing if I can get it back on track, using some of the things she talked about in the meeting on Sunday. |
