Yesterday, Daniel and I escaped the Gestalt Mind and went to see The Mask of Zorro. It was cheesy, but cute. The stunt work was really well done, but there were many moments where my willing suspension of disbelief was sorely tested, and I did grow a bit weary of a few of the Obligatory Moments Of Character Stupidity To Drive The Plot. But all in all it was not a bad flick, and it was a fairly pleasant escape from the dorm. * * * * * When I got back to the dorm I found much mail in my mailbox, including a big package from England from Kat, with all sorts of yummy chocolate in it. Just what I needed to get through this last week! But the coolest thing of all was a little booklet, eleven pages long, which turned out to be my novel in micro-print! 14,000 words per page! I immediately showed it to all of my classmates, to show them that I now had a novel in print. Robert got out his magnifying glass and attempted to read the first page, but still had trouble. This print is tiny. * * * * * But then we were still in Writing Avoidance Mode, so I walked down to the video store and rented Fallen and Gattaca, neither of which I've seen. We watched Fallen last night, which is actually a pretty cool movie, though we copped to the "surprise" ending a good bit beforehand. It has several extremely good scenes in it though, especially with the demon traveling from person to person. The showing of Gattaca is going to be today at 3pm--right about the time that the dorm rooms on my side of the building begin to reach sweltering. * * * * * And it looks like I might actually manage nine stories after all. I started plinking this afternoon, and have about 500 words of something that I think might actually work for a shortish-short. Then I can maybe do another for my previously scheduled turn-in slot on Wednesday. We'll have to see how it goes. But with any luck, I'll be done with my writing on Wednesday, and can spend the rest of the week doing Other Stuff. I still haven't been to the Space Needle. Seems like I really should go there at some point while I'm here. |
