I'm trying to assimilate myself back into the "real world" and it's proving to be very strange. My brother keeps complaining that I'm too quiet, though I did warn him that I probably wasn't going to be much in the way of company these next couple of days. I'm trying to hold onto the "sense" of Clarion, and it's really impossible. Thank god for email. We still have our mailing list running, and I think that will help make the whole readjustment back into regular society a bit easier.

Getting back to my brother's place was pretty cool, because he acquired two kittens a couple of weeks ago. They are absolutely adorable, and I have a feeling that as soon as I get a place of my own (which I'm tentatively hoping will be after the first of the year, barring any mishap) I will be getting a cat of my own. I miss feline company.

So today was spent relaxing and running a couple of errands. I went to B&N and picked up some of the more recent SF/F magazines, and also a copy of last year's Year's Best Science Fiction. I'm going to really miss having so many excellent bookstores nearby. Thank god for Amazon.com.

But then, after all the errands, my brother took me down to the Poulsbo marina, and we took a flight in an open cockpit biplane! It was only a 20 minute flight and it cost $40/person, but it was a total blast, and well worth the money. It's been a long time since I've been up in a small plane.

I am going to try and do a smidgeon of writing-related work today though. Either looking at rewrites, or at least reading from the Year's Best. I don't think I can handle going cold turkey from it all. Besides, tomorrow night I fly to Baltimore for Worldcon, so I can't get too relaxed.
