Beat me, shoot me, stab me, just don't infect me

Well...

Hmmm...

Been thinking all day about what to say in today's entry. Problem is, there's not a whole lot I can say, since it's most assuredly an open case.

Hmmm...

Well... I got into my first fight today as a peace officer.

Hmmm...

I spent the next five or so hours in the ER.

In a way, it's nothing too serious... just a bite. Problem is, human mouths are pretty filthy, and there's that ever-present spectre of infectious diseases out there.

I got a tetanus shot, a hepatitis shot (and have to go back in a month for another,) and two gamma globulin shots.

Oh yeah, almost forgot the fun stuff. I'm on HIV prophylactic meds. Lovely side effects, or so I was warned. Yes, I wanted to be nauseated and ill for Thanksgiving.

Yes, the suspect is in custody.

Yes, I love my job more than ever. I never realized it before, but fellow deputies/officers take it personally when one of their own is injured, especially in a confrontation. I definitely got a warm fuzzy feeling (and not, that wasn't just the meds!)

Now I'm just waiting for the results of the court-ordered blood test that was performed on the arrestee.

On a positive note, my FTO said I "done good" in the altercation. ;-)
