It's Friday, though it's not a "friday" in the usually accepted sense of the word as it pertains to an upcoming weekend, at least for me right now. I worked last night--which means I got off work at about 6am--grabbed a few hours of sleep, and then made it to the credit union at 1pm to work a detail. I'll be here until about 7:30, at which time I will head home to grab another couple of hours sleep, and then will head to Walmart at midnight to work another detail until 6am. (For those of you who are unaware, a detail is off-duty work where we are still acting in the capacity of law enforcement officers--general security type shit, you know. I--and most of the cops I know--have to work details to make ends meet, and to be able to afford the occasional luxury... like furniture, heat, or food that is something other than peanut butter and white bread. The few guys who don't work details generally have wives with well-paying jobs.)

So I'll probably sleep most of Saturday afternoon, and then I plan on finishing up the painting in the bathroom. The living room and kitchen are finished (and it's a good thing I plan on replacing the linoleum in the kitchen with ceramic tile since I splattered paint all over it) and I only have to do one more coat on the edges and corners in the bathroom. I ended up painting the bathroom a very dark red, which turned out surprisingly close to the effect I was hoping for--very rich. I was a bit nervous when I first poured the paint out into the tray, because coming out of the can it was awfully pink, but it darkened up about four shades upon drying. I've also been framing various pictures and hanging them on the walls, so my house is actually attaining some character and style. After the painting, I want to put up the border wallpaper in the kitchen, bath, and living room, and then those sections will be done! I figure that the painting of the bedrooms and the dining room can wait until the other stuff is finished, since I am just about sick to friggin death of painting.

Exercise has unfortunately been put on the back burner during all the home improvement stuff, but it's hard to stay motivated (and stay on a diet) during this time of year anyway (nice excuse, eh?) But after the first of the year I'll dive back into it. There'll be a new class starting out at the Academy on Jan 2, so I'll start running with them again.

And I realized the other day that the only single guy I know who has a job, who isn't a complete loser, who is reasonably good looking and not totally out of shape, who still has most of his teeth, and is intelligent enough to carry on a conversation... is my ex-husband. Sheesh. There's just no hope for me.
