My oven is dead, and since I've had to light the burners on the stove with a lighter ever since I moved in, and the whole thing is a decrepit piece of shit (like much of the rest of the house) I've decided that it's not worth trying to get it repaired and will thus be doing appliance-shopping when I get back from Meridian. Oh yeah, I'm leaving for another narcotics school tomorrow and will return the following friday. I will have zero net access up there, so I will not be checking emails, newsgroups, other journals, and will not be updating this one. And, since my laptop is dead, I will not even be writing entries while I'm up there for later posting. I'm sure I'll survive. I really should not complain too much about the house. I got an incredible bargain on it when I bought it, and I have an amazingly low house note--which allows me to be in the (low-salaried but incredibly satisfying)job I'm in. But there's just so much that needs to be done on the house that it's pretty overwhelming, and every now and then I really crave having a Nice House that isn't falling apart. Unfortunately, a Nice House would have an equivalent Not-Nice House Note. It would also help if I had even the slightest bit of decorating ability or style, but I don't and so I know my house is not all that attractive on the inside (we won't even go into what it looks like on the outside.) This is one of the reasons I'm passing on Worldcon this year--there are too many things here that I need to spend money on. My dining room furniture is patio furniture. My bedroom furniture is the same furniture I had in high school. The mattress is even older than that. The top of one of my dressers is held on by packing tape. It's probably a good thing I have no life. |
