My incredible streak of not being stuck in court for the entire day continues. I had only one subpoena today, and I knew that it was going to go to trial, and thus had not planned on doing anything today other than sit in court. But the Gods of Justice continue to smile on me, because I was barely there for half an hour when I learned that the case was being continued until September. I was home before 10am!

I've also been lucking out on picking up extra details--good since I'm wanting the extra money to furnish my home with something other than Post-Modern Crap. On Monday I'd picked up part of a detail at the offtrack betting parlor--6pm until close (which ended up being four hours.) But around noon on Monday I got a call from another deputy wanting to know if I could work the bank detail from 1:30 to 6:30, and then I got another call shortly after that from another deputy wanting to know if I wanted to work Walmart from midnight to 6am. So, if I'd wanted (and if I'd been totally insane) I could have worked details, basically nonstop from 1:30 pm until 6am the next morning... and then headed to court at 8am. I want the money, but not that badly! I politely declined the latter two details and stuck with the original one at the betting parlor.

But then today I got a call from a guy on my team wanting to know if I wanted the bank detail in the afternoon. To that I said yes, since I hadn't planned anything for the day anyway, having anticipated being stuck in court. I figure that paid for one of the chairs of my new dining room set.

Still haven't bought my new stove yet. Really, it's not like I use it very often, so I guess there's not any sort of rush.

I just saw on the news about how there have been confirmed cases of west nile virus in south Georgia and Florida.. and health officials are telling people to protect themselves from mosquito bites by wearing long sleeved shirts and long pants.

This is the Deep South we're talking about here. What good is it to avoid skeeter bites if you drop dead of heat stroke instead???
