I don't like this, I thought. But I kept on going.
At last I came to the room where the TV still played, its voice a low mutter and its pallid light flickering. The smell I'd noticed before was all over everything now. I felt the hair rise up on the back of my neck.
I wanted to leave, but I couldn't. I had to find out — I had to talk to Elise. I stepped into the room, flashlight shining ahead of me, and then halted.
Two middle-aged people sat on the couch, staring with wide, unblinking eyes at the moving pictures on the television screen. They were dead, their necks twisted at unnatural angles, and the fronts of their clothes stained with dried blood.
For a few seconds, all I could do was stand there. I'd come to find out how my friend Elise could be a vampire without her parents knowing.
