MY NATIVITY SCENES

by Helen E. Davis

This first scene is one I made myself, for a contest at the place where I worked, the Department of Anatomy. The challenge was to build a Christmas Decoration with a tie to anatomy or biology. One of the entrants, I remember, was a tree ornament of a wood carving of a brain section. I used electron microscopy samples, embedded in resin, which my boss had decided to clear out. Makes for a very pretty, scene, don't you think?

This next scene is one I bought when the girls were small. Durable, yet informative, unlike the more abstract one I made. Also, works well with other Playmobile components.

This year's addition is the Veggietales scene. For pure silliness with a message, you can't beat Veggietales. Plus, the components are very durable, which is important in a house with two kittens. Since this nativity scene sits on a table before a window that the cats like to look out of, we are constantly re-enacting the massacre of Bethleham.
