GANDULF'S BIRD
By Janette Davis
Description of characters
This fan story was written with the author assuming you knew the characters from Yuyu Hakusho, and from The Lord of the Rings. But if you don't here's a short description of everyone that's plays a part including Kami... a character of my own imagination.
Kami: Female, Third-wolf Third-fox Third-human. She's smart, clever... at times and doesn't act like a girl. She's temperamental and cold but loyal to anyone who wins her loyalty. Her other half is evil. She was once the goddess Artemis
Hiei: A fire demon. He's cold, aloof, and punkish. He works hard at taking care of his twin sister Yukina. Hiei is short and has spiky hair.
Yukina: An ice demon. She's the opposite of her brother, except in height. Yukina is a sweet girl and has bluish-greenish hair.
Boton: Blue hair, bubble-brained
Gandulf: Wizard in Lord of the Rings. He's wise and has a knack with birds, stern.
Legolis: An elf. He's was pure in heart and polite.
Koenma: Son of the Lord of the dead, King Enma
The Ring: Umm, if you don't know what that is, you won't get parts of the story
The story
This is a retelling of Fitcher's Bird. What would have happened if the ring had taken over the Fellowship's mind. Fitcher's Bird is a fairy tale by The Brother's Grimm.
Once upon a time there was a wizard under the name of Gandulf who'd take on the looks of a poor man and go to houses begging, and stole the pretty girls. The girls would never come back and now one knew what happened to them, until this story. One day Gandulf dressed up in poor man's clothes and went to one of Koenma's huts. Koenma had three girl trying to clean up the hut. Gandulf begged for food and the oldest one, a girl named Boton tried to give Gandulf a piece of bread. All Gandulf had to do was touch her and into his bag poor Boton had to go.
He took her to his forest home in Mt. Morder, which was surrounded by a gloomy forest. The house was wonderful. Boton got whatever she wished for. You know, scotch, the latest gossip updates, fruit cocktails, make the guy do the housework and you get the idea. Gandulf tried to convince her she'd be happy to live with him for days until one day, he had to leave.
Gandulf informed Boton "I must go on a journey. I will leave you home alone in charge, here are my keys. You can go anywhere in the house except the room that you opened with this little key." Gandulf fingered a little tarnished key. Boton nodded and looked through the keys looking for the one to the Ferrari.
"I forbid you to go in there on pain of death." Then Gandulf handed Boton an ordinary looking egg.
"Take careful care of this egg. Even better, carry this egg with you everywhere. If you lose the egg you will face a terrible calamity.
"Okay-dokey!" Boton said.
Gandulf left.
Boton went exploring the house. She saw rooms made of gold and sliver, the best wine cellar there ever was, and a room full of birds. Boton headed downstairs to fix lunch and tried to walk past the forbidden door, but curiosity got the better of he. Boton fit the key into the door and swung open the door. In the room stood a basin with ladies all chopped up in it. Boton screamed and dropped the egg. It was all Boton could do to keep from fainting. The egg fell into a basin. Boton fished the egg out, and the egg was now covered in blood. Boton tried to wash the blood off the egg, but every time it looked as if the egg was clean the blood came back. (Back then there were Ferrari but not cleaning detergent.) So poor Boton rubbed and rubbed the egg until Gandulf came back.
Gandulf asked to see the keys and the egg and when he saw it Gandulf was furious. He chopped up Boton and threw her in the basin. "She was too bubble-brained anyway." Gandulf muttered. Gandulf went and kidnaped the second maiden, a girl named Yukina, who suffered the same fate. So Gandulf had to go kidnap the third maiden, a tricky, crafty girl under the name of Kami.
Kami had gotten the egg and key and tried to walk past the forbidden room, but curiosity got the better of her. So Kami carefully placed the egg in her pocket and walked into the room. And what did Kami see but two of her good friends chopped up in the bin. So Kami found the parts of her friends in the basin and attempted to put her friend together. Kami could be heard saying "Shoot. Boton did talk abut dying her hair blond." and such until the parts to her friends had been found. When the parts came together, her friend were brought back to life and began to move and talk all over again.
The three rejoiced. Then Kami shoved Boton and Yukina into a side room.
When Gandulf returned and saw no blood anywhere he announced "Kami has proved herself. She will be my bride.
This was a sign Kami now had control over him.
"Very well," Kami said, "just do me this one thing before anything else. Take a basket of gold on your back to Koenma's house. I'll invite the wedding guest."
Kami went and put Boton and Yukina into a basket.
"That beast is going to take you home. Once your there get help."
Kami covered Yukina and Boton with gold, and then hauled the basket over to Gandulf. Kami undertook a personality change, but to save time basically, her other half took over.
"Go hurry," the other Kami commanded Gandulf, "don't you dare stop to rest or you will suffer a slow painful death. I will watch you from the attic window. "
Gandulf left and walked on. The basket, was unusually heavy, even for gold, and Gandulf was suspicious. Yeah, the ring may have taken over his mind but it had not destroyed his intelligence. Gandulf longed to look inside the basket but Kami's words still rang in his head, so he went on. Gandulf was old, and old men tire easily so Gandulf was getting tired. Why Gandulf had waited this long for a bride heaven only knows. He came upon a huge tree and decided to take a rest. When Gandulf slowed down Kami screamed "Keep going!" and Gandulf heard. The wizard slowed down by a creek and Kami screamed again "Keep going!" and again Gandulf heard her. This went on until the wizard reach Koenma's Hut.
Meanwhile Kami had turned back to her regular self and was inviting everyone from the fellowship of the ring, who were now evil, to the wedding until she heard the doorbell ring.
"Up in the attic." Kami said.
Hiei appeared before her.
"Okay witch! I'm here for my sister." Hiei informed her.
Kami turned around and stared at him. He stared back.
"I don't care if this is a fairy tale. I'm here to save Yukina." Hiei said.
"I've already saved her. Now, I'm going to marry Gandulf."
"WHAT! I'm the one who's suppose to save her!"
"Well, I'm smart and I'm the heroine so I saved her.
That was that and Kami shoved the upset Hiei into a side room. Then she set a skull up in the attic window and decorated the skull with flowers and garlands.
Hiei came out and started a row. When the row had ended Kami was pitch black and Hiei had honey all over him and feathers everywhere so he now longer resembled himself, but now looked like a bird.
Kami looked at him and got an idea. She covered herself with honey and feathers until she resembled a bird.
Hiei looked at her. "What are you doing? Well, I guess I'll have to settle with rescuing you. Come!" and with those words Hiei dragged Kami away.
The two were walking down the road away from Gandulf's house and whom should they come across but Legolis? Now I must tell you, the ring may have taken over his mind but he was still polite.
"Good day Gandulf's Bird. From where have you two come?
Hiei was insulted to be called a bird. "Why you!" he began, growling.
Kami cut him off. "From Gandulf's house have I come."
"What did you see the young bride doing there?"
Hiei tried again, "Incompetent, She's"
Kami hastily stuffed a feather in Hiei's mouth and continued the reply "turned the place upside down," Kami finished, "and from her the attic she looks down."
The couple walked on until they came across the bridegroom. Kami hastily stuffed some leaves into Hiei's mouth.
Gandulf asked:
"Gandulf's birds how you come here?"
"From Gandulf's house I come here." Kami replied
"What did you see my bride doing there?"
"She's turned the whole place upside down and now from her the attic window she looks down."
Gandulf looked up at the attic window and saw the skull in the window. He waved assuming that was his bride to be. He went into the house where all the guest were already.
Now, Hiei was mad at Kami. He did not like having things shoved into his mouth. He dragged Kami with him back to the house and slammed the door shut so that Gandulf and the Fellowship was stuck inside.
"I rescue you and the best you can do is shove things in my mouth?" Hiei asked Kami
"You rescue me?" Kami asked. "I rescued us."
The two had another row.
Hiei, being a fire demon, lost his cool and set the house on fire.
The two stopped fighting long enough to watch the house and the fellowship burn.
Then the help arrived that Boton and Yukina had sent to help Kami, and watched the house burn down. Nobody knew what happened and Kami and Hiei wouldn't say for they were two embarrassed.
"Let's just say help came early and set the house on fire. After all this is a fairy tale so nothing has to make sense." Kami told Hiei.
So it was said. The evil Fellowship was destroyed along with the egg and presumably the ring. But know one ever knows for sure with the ring. Everyone lived happily ever after.
THE END!
