RELICby Helen E. Davis
If the buildings were to crumble
And civilization fell,
If the planet were devoured,
By the forests green and tall:
Who would dig down for our bones?
Who would brush away the sod?
Who would resurrect us then,
Along with lizards and with cod?
They'd rebuild the elephants --
Giraffe and rhino, too --
But what of Homo Sapiens?
Are we too small to use?
Would we be stuffed into the drawers?
Or left upon the shelves?
Would they argue on the oddities
Of our strange and horrid selves?
And would they bicker on our cover:
Were we warm or did we freeze?
Were we covered up with fronds
Or did we all wear leaves?
