I'm a long time Philadelphia fan.  I met Catherine Mintz for the first
time this summer at a reading she gave at Borders, and we've emailed each
other back and forth since then on a variety of subjects.
    My wife Diane and I flew out to Chicon recently, and on Sunday night
we happened into a party given by Minneapolis people.  People were playing
guitars and singing, and homemade absinthe was being passed around.  Diane
was talking to a young man who happened to be sitting next to her, and since
he was an artist she brought him over and introduced him to me. (I'm an
amateur artist, myself).  His name was Franz and after talking about painting
for a short while, the subject drifted to a different kind of project he was
involved in.  Something called the World-Wide Fan Party.  I got him to
explain it to me.  When I expressed interest in the idea, he told me that
while he was promoting the idea mainly in Europe (he is Austrian) he had
someone actively promoting it in the U.S.  The person's name:

    I suppose I was just fated to get involved...
