E-mission Statement
I am — at least, I try to be — a writer, because writing and reading
are the greatest activities of the human mind. Bumblebees can
dance, canaries can make music, chimps can splatter paint across
a canvas, parrots can talk, cockroaches can procreate ... but only
the human mind can articulate concepts, emotion and knowledge
on a sheet of paper (or a computer screen, or a clay tablet)
where another human mind can access them. And this transition
of thoughts — from one mind to the next — can occur an instant
later, or the next day, or after the passage of millennia.

I don’t claim to be a great writer (that’s for others to decide),
and I’ll probably never be this week’s trendy wordsmith.
If I wanted the quick path to hipstertude, I would’ve been
a rock musician or a fashion designer. I’m merely doing the
best I can accomplish today, hoping to do better tomorrow.

Immortality is for suckers. If even a few of my words outlive me
by even one hour, then I have cheated death. But I’ve no illusions
about writing anything that will “live forever”. A few billion years
from now (give or take a bank holiday weekend) the heat-death
of the universe will guarantee that all my works are out of print.
