On a recent day trip, we took the kids to Howe Caverns, in upstate New York. Though I won't mention the interesting (not!) restaurant experiences of the trip (not once, but twice!) we still had a good time.
(Pictures are on several pages. I didn't resize them since they were dark to begin with, and the beauty of the rocks just doesn't come through when you smallify them - yes, it is a word. My word.)
Underneath this modest building, on this modest hill, lie the caverns.
