OPENING LINES
Stories have to start somewhere. It's best to kick them off with a hook, set the tone and above all, make sure the reader wants to continue to the next sentence (and hopefully the rest of the story). Here are the opening lines to some of my stories:
"My date had been dead for two weeks when we arrived at the prom."
--Omar's One True Love - PROM NIGHT
"Traffic pisses me off."
--So You Wanna Be a Hitman? - ROBERT BLOCH'S PSYCHOS
"Zombies shambled across the street from St. Joseph's Hospital to the Shop N' Save where I worked in the Before Time."
--Shop N' Save Zombies - BUBBAS OF THE APOCALYPSE
"My collection of bodies is getting too big for the basement."
--Collector's Fever - HORRORS: 365 SCARY STORIES
"Linda was a hot lookin' bitch out there on the dance floor."
--She Ain't Ready For My Lovin' - CURSE OF THE MAGAZINE KILLERS
"Joe Crane roared into Onkawa, Oklahoma like a pissed-off demon bent on destruction."
--The Blood on Satan's Harley - IT CAME FROM THE DRIVE-IN
