| "Will You Be an Astronaut?" in Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, Sept. 2002 and New Skies (Tor Books) |
Read
it once because it's good and then read it again to see just how well
contructed it is. A
subtle and frightening tale ... ambitious and successful. Before
the story is finished, it has gone to unexpected and extremely disturbing
realms . |
| "Wolves Till the World Goes Down" in Starlight 3 and in Best Fantasy 2001 |
| One
of my favorites from the anthology ... van Eekhout balances the contemporary
speech of gods living in the near future with the larger-than-life nature
of such gods to create a believable pantheon. Matthew Winslow, Green Man Review |
| "People
Stuff" in Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet #10 |
|
The
story is humorous, but at the same time the intelligent and vicious dog
ably recalls the childhood terror inspired by large dogs. ... "People
Stuff" works as comedy and Twilight-Zone like horror, sort of a cross
between Mad Magazine and Tales from the Crypt. |
| "Show and Tell" in Strange Horizons |
|
Show
and Tell" is not laugh-out-loud humor but uneasy and strange, funny
in both senses. The last line is a casual moment of rare weirdness. |
| "Runaway With No Tags" in Maelstrom SF #8 |

A
wonderful short story that catches you about halfway through with a wonderful
surprise. Excellent pacing
and construction and a sweet story as well. |
