August Derleth Redux: The Weird Tale 1930-1971 (2009) is the first monograph in a projected series about Wisconsin’s famous writer, editor, and publisher: August Derleth; A Look Behind the Derleth Mythos is scheduled next, in 2010.  In addition, John is in final stages preparing his first science fiction novel of a two-book series, working title: Solomon Rising.

John is a contributing member of The Esoteric Order of Dagon, the Amateur Press Association devoted to H. P. Lovecraft.  He is an authority on August Derleth’s firm Arkham House and the Small Press it influenced, and is assembling a complete set of that publisher’s issue.  In 2007, John won coveted Cimmerian awards for “Skull-Face and Others at Sixty” and A Bibliography of Books and Articles Written by August W. Derleth Concerning Derleth and the Weird Tale and Arkham House Publishing.  Related items have appeared in Lovecraft Annual and August Derleth Society Newsletter.  The annotated bibliography Lest We Forget: August Derleth on the Subject of H. P. Lovecraft was published in 2009.  In hopes of doing more fiction writing after completing the ambitious Derleth scheme, John joined Allied Authors—a Wisconsin writing group with a tradition dating back to the 1930s.  

John is married with children and lives in a home governed by black cat Spooker who tolerates a dog named Lucy.
