THE LITERARY ESTATE OF KAREN ZEINERT

I'm sorry to report that Karen Zeinert, a former middle school history teacher and the author of twenty-four books for young adults, passed away earlier this year. Her titles repeatedly appeared on the New York Public Library's "Recommended List for the Teen Age," and she won the Council for Wisconsin Writers' children's nonfiction award three times. In addition, two titles have appeared on the National Council for the Social Studies' annual list of notable books, THOSE COURAGEOUS WOMEN OF THE CIVIL WAR in 1999 and THE VALIANT WOMEN OF THE VIENTAM WAR in 2001. Two other titles were selected as honor books of the year by VOYA magazine, ACROSS THE PLAINS IN THE DONNER PARTY in 1997 and THE LINCOLN ASSASSINATION PLOT in 2000.
