Lesson Plans

The Literature Lessons | Social Studies | The Science Fiction Story Assignment

The lesson plans feature a day to day approach for teaching The Time Machine in the Science Fiction Literature, British Literature or other general literature classes. The emphasis is on the same elements any novel would inspire: characterization, plot, theme, style, etc. with the addition of the interesting science fictional concepts. For the history or social studies teacher there are suggestions for discussion and a brief essay placing The Time Machine within a historical context. In addition, there is a stand alone unit on writing a science fiction story that is separate from the novel. It would be a natural follow-up to teaching the story in any classroom.
