_____ Introduction check: Does the introduction make it clear what the purpose of the essay is? If you only read the introduction, would you know what the purpose was? Does the introduction attempt to be interesting and unique? Does the introduction make a statement about the current state of Eloi development and where the author thinks they should head? Does there appear to be an overall philosophy that guides the paper.

_____ Completeness check: Does each paragraph seem to be fully developed? Does it relate the book to the overall philosophy? Make suggestions for what ought to be added.

_____ Specifics check: Are there specific examples to support the major assertions? (There should be at least three specific examples, one for each book)

_____ Coherence check: Does each paragraph make sense? Do all the sentences logically follow the preceding thoughts?

_____ Unity check: Is the essay unified by some element the recurs or by some theme that runs all the way through it? Are the beginning and the end related?

_____ Style check: Does the way the essay is written entertain you? Is there a sense of the writer's "voice" coming through? Is there an attempt to vary sentence patterns, particularly lengths, beginnings and structure?

_____ Sentence completeness check: Does each sentence make sense? (apply the "mall test.")

_____ Run on sentence check: Is each sentence only one sentence? Have more than one sentence been incorrectly combined and should be repunctuated?

_____ Mechanics check: Are all the commas, periods, capitalizations, paragraph indentations and other mechanical matters handled correctly?

_____ Spelling check: Are all the words spelled correctly?
