Simply put, the LMFFL is a fantasy football league where, instead of recruiting individual players, you recruit offensive and defensive units en masse. And instead of analyzing passing and rushing yardage from a few dozen players, you add point totals from no more than four games. Everything you need to know will be in the front page of Monday's sports section (or, in some cases, Tuesday's). Heck, you don't even need to know the rules of football.
As an example, take two hypothetical LMFFL teams, call them the Plague Rats and the Psychopaths. Let's say that the Plague Rats have Minnesota's offense and Chicago's defense, while the Psychopaths have Green Bay's offense and Detroit's defense. When those two teams play each other, here's what happens:
Looking at the sports section, you see that Minnesota beat Cincinatti 64 to 3. The Plague Rats have Minnesota as an offense, so the 64 points that Minnesota scored go to the Plague Rats.
Plague Rats 64
Psychopaths ?
(But Jason, I hear you cry, field goals and such are scored by special teams, and defenses can run interceptions in for touchdowns! To which I reply: Gentle Reader, this is LAZY Man's Fantasy Football.)
Looking further, you see that Pittsburgh beat Chicago 35 to 21. The Plague Rats have Chicago as their defense, so those 35 points go to the Plague Rats' OPPONENT:
Plague Rats 64
Psychopaths 35
Now we do the same thing for the Psychopaths. Green Bay beat Seattle 33 to 16. Those 33 points get added to those allowed by the Plague Rats' defense:
Plague Rats 64
Psychopaths 35 + 33
Finally, you see this score: Detroit 21, Baltimore 31. The Psychopaths' opponent gets those 31 points.
Plague Rats 64 + 31
Psychopaths 35 + 33
Now just add those numbers up, and you'll have your final score.
Plague Rats 64 + 31 = 95
Psychopaths 35 + 33 = 68
The Plague Rats win by a score of 95 to 68. Easy, isn't it?
TIEBREAKER SYSTEM
Ties will happen, of course, and people will want them broken, especially in the playoffs. So I came up with this system. It's arbitrary, but at least it's even-handed and easy to understand. It works like this: if the score is tied at an ODD number, the top-listed team wins. If the score is tied at an EVEN number, the bottom-listed team wins. Like I said, arbitrary, but even-handed.
