Caliver Books, Publishers of the British gaming magazine Valkyrie, have announced that they are launching Odyssey: A Magazine of Science Fiction and Fantasy. Liz Holiday, fiction editor of Valkyrie, will edit the new professional magazine.
Plans are to produce an introductory issue this summer (#0), largely featuring reprint fiction from Valkyrie, plus the startups of the non-fiction columns. Issue #1, with all original fiction, will be launched during The World Fantasy Convention in London this October. Afterward, issues will be bi-monthly.
Regular columnists will be Dave Langford with in-depth book reviews, Colin Greenland with advice for writers, Charles Stross on science, Marcus Rowland on gaming, Roz Kaveney and Andy Lane of sf pop culture, as well as regular interviews with people important to the genre.
Odyssey accepts fiction submissions of all styles of science fiction and fantasy between 1500-12,000 words, with a slot in each issue for a 750-word short-short.
